Montezuma-Cortez High School

JOB TITLE: Color Guard Instructor

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The color guard instructor will assist the director of bands in all aspects of the auxiliary unit. The individual should feel comfortable preparing exercises, techniques and routines suitable for all skill­ levels of students. The instructor will direct the unit within the Montezuma-Cortez High School Marching Band.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Assist in adjudication of new student try-outs. Create a growth plan for the future recruitment and retainment for the program. Prepare warm-up routines and technique exercises for the unit. Choreograph and assist with the visual package for the Marching Band including, but not limited to band choreography and props, etc. Choreograph, arrange and implement routines and techniques for the current and future growth of the colorguard.

Establish clear communication with member's parents and help organize their efforts. Maintain clear communication and cooperative working relationships with band staff and be able to effectively communicate needs/wants for the unit.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience preferred as a colorguard instructor and designer for marching band and/or drum corps. Experience as a member of colorguards or winterguards. Must be available for band camp, rehearsals, football games and contests.

Bear Creek High School is seeking an experienced Director of Color Guard for the Winter 2016-17 and successive fall and winter seasons.  This individual will be responsible for the growth and development of the students and the instrumental music program as a whole, including but not limited to:

·         Recruiting new members through audition camps in May and November

·         Training students with the fundamentals of equipment, dance, and performance

·         Designing multiple aspects of productions in coordination with other staff members

·         Choreographing the color guard and sections of visuals for the marching band

·         Assisting members of the color guard and marching band in improving their technical and performance skills

·         Planning and scheduling including all necessary paperwork, itineraries, communication to parents and rehearsal agendas

·         Budgeting and purchase for the needs of the program in current and future seasons

·         Communicating effectively with the director, staff, students, parents and other parties as necessary

·         Advising the band director on the needs of the program including purchases, technical staff, scheduling, travel, etc.
